
Columbia-Richland firefighters on 1st Shift made an amazing rescue after a crash caused a vehicle to go off a bridge overpass in Columbia and into the Broad River below.
The vehicle was traveling out of Columbia on Wednesday March 12, 2025. While going over the I-126 bridge it struck a guard rail and then went over it and off the bridge. The car landed near the bank of the Broad River and caught fire on impact.
Firefighters quickly got down to the vehicle and were able to extricate the driver. They then used rescue ropes to move him from the scene to a waiting EMS crew.


Richland County EMS transported the driver to an area hospital with significant injuries.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident and there were no other injuries.
