Roughly 30 people were left displaced after a 2-Alarm fire ripped through an apartment building in Columbia.
Crews with the Columbia-Richland Fire Department responded to the Columbia Rising Apartments on the afternoon of Tuesday January 23rd. Upon arrival, they found heavy fire and smoke coming out of a window. The fast progression of the fire prompted officers on scene to call for a 2nd alarm.
The fire was ultimately brought under control and extinguished. All occupants of the building made it out safely but two of them were later transported by EMS due to smoke inhalation.
Sixteen units of the building were left damaged by the fire and upwards of 50 firefighters were involved in the operation.
CRFD’s fire marshals office investigated and determined that the fire was caused by electrical wiring in between two units of the building.
