WINTER STORM WARNING in Place for Columbia Metro Area Friday Night January 21

By January 13, 2022No Comments

The National Weather Service in Columbia has placed the entire metro area under a Winter Storm Warning from Friday, January 21 through Saturday, January 22.

According to the National Weather Service heavy precipitation combined with colder air will bring freezing rain to the region along with the possibility of several inches of snowfall over the course of the overnight.

This in turn will create slippery and hazardous road conditions. As of Friday night NWS reported that already road conditions were deteriorating in some areas and encouraged citizens to avoid travel.

The Columbia-Richland Fire Department encourages our citizens to use utmost caution on the roadways this Friday and into the weekend and to postpone any unnecessary travel if dangerous conditions exist due to the weather. Also given the threat of power outages from this storm be sure you have an emergency kit ready for your home. This kit should include a flashlight and spare batteries.
