Columbia-Richland firefighters working with the Irmo Fire District were successfully able to contain a fast-moving 2-Alarm fire that tore through parts of an area condo building.

Firefighters responded to Old Manor Road inside the Briargate condominiums just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday February 6.

Upon arrival they found fire moving quickly through the building and its roof. This prompted officers on scene to call for a 2nd Alarm — dispatching more companies to the scene. In all over 19 fire units became involved in the operation.

Two occupants of the building were transported by Richland County EMS for injuries and about 20 people were left displaced.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office.
