2-Alarm Fire Rips Through Homes in Northeast Richland County

In the early morning hours of June 25, 2024 Columbia-Richland firefighters responded to a massive fire in the Summit neighborhood off of Clemson Road.

Crews were first dispatched to the scene on Gardenhill Drive shortly before 1 a.m. The first units arrived to find one property fully involved with the fire quickly spreading through the house next door. This prompted officers on scene to call for a second alarm — dispatching more resources.

Occupants of all properties involved escaped to safety and there were no injuries. The fire was ultimately brought under control and extinguished. In addition to the two homes that were heavily damaged, one other home also suffered exposure damages due to the high heat.

The Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office is looking into what caused the fire.
