On the evening of Wednesday February 16, 2022 CRFD crews responded to the Hammond School in Columbia after a massive fire broke out in one of the classroom buildings of the school’s lower campus.

The first units arrived to find heavy fire coming from the building and the flames were starting to spread to a second structure. This prompted officers on scene to call for a second alarm, which dispatched more crews.

Roughly 50 CRFD personnel became involved in the operation. The Fort Jackson Fire Department also responded to provide assistance. The fire was ultimately confined to the classroom building and put out.

There were no injuries but the building did suffer significant damages. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
