The Columbia-Richland Fire Department kicked off the summer season with a day of ‘firehouse fun’ on Friday June 21.

Station 1 on Laurel Street became the site of a free community ‘Open House.’ Citizens were able to stop by during much of the day to check out the department’s firetrucks, meet Columbia-Richland firefighters, explore the fire museum and enjoy food trucks, lawn games and other hands on activities. The Columbia Police Department’s ice cream truck was also on scene providing free frozen treats.
The event was held to benefit the James R. Clark Sickle Cell Foundation and area teens who face the daily struggle of living with sickle cell anemia. Guests at the open house were encouraged to donate gift cards and other items that will be distributed in our communities during the holiday season.

By the end of the event more than $500 in gifts was raised to show support for our area teens living with sickle cell.
