Residents in the City of Columbia and Richland County can now take advantage of a new tool to help them stay prepared ahead of fires and other unforeseen emergencies.

Through the use of CRFD’s new ‘Community Connect’ portal, citizens can now sign up, create an account for their properties and put in the important details that they want first responders to know.

“The focus of this new project is getting us the information that is important to your specific home or business,” said Columbia-Richland Fire Chief Aubrey D. Jenkins, “When our firefighters arrive on the scene of a fire, in most cases they know very little about what they are walking into. How many people may be inside the building? Where are the points of access to get in? Are there any pets? These are all questions you can assist us with answering by creating an account.”

This new and FREE service from CRFD is only available to residents in the City of Columbia and Richland County. You can create an account by visiting CRFD’s new Community Connect website, providing and email and creating a password.

Once a resident creates an account they can choose what information they wish to provide in a whole host of areas. This includes information concerning pets in the home, occupants who may have disabilities, property utility locations and more.

All personal information provided through Community Connect is kept secure and is only used during emergency situations.

“We really hope our citizens will take advantage of this new tool to better aid them in the event of an emergency,” Chief Jenkins said, “the more information our firefighters have at their disposal when they get to a scene, the better equipped they’ll be to help.”
