Division Chief of Administration, Michael Cothran
Chief Cothran began as a volunteer firefighter in 1991 with the Columbia Fire Department. In 1998, he was promoted to Volunteer Captain and then District Chief in 1999. While a volunteer firefighter, Chief Cothran worked in the IT field for the USC School of Medicine, Richland School District One, and the USC College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management. In 2006, Chief Cothran was hired as the Volunteer Coordinator and then was promoted to Division Chief of Administration.
Chief Cothran’s responsibilities include managing the Department’s budget and AFG/SAFER grants. He also serves as the Department’s IT liaison and is responsible for managing the Department’s AVL and radio equipment. In his spare time, Chief Cothran likes to volunteer with his church serving the community; and spends time with his family, friends, and four-legged children.
